Back with Amnesia

After a 3 year break I’m back! This blog will updated at least weekly, mostly consisting things that I have found on the internet that I find interesting (games, movies, music, etc), but I do plan on having some original content shortly (be it music, videos, or perhaps something I haven’t thought of yet?). For now, I hope you find something you like.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is pretty messed up, and I love it.
So I finally mustered up the courage to play Amnesia: The Dark Descent. By mustering up the courage I mean inviting 6 of my friends over to play/watch with me so I would wouldn't be scared shitless alone and inflicting insomnia upon myself for at least a week. If you haven't heard much about it I seriously recommend watching this full screen and in the dark:

After my first experience I have to say that it definitely lived up to the hype. The games creates an atmosphere thick with tension that makes every corner seems like it could be your last. My favourite aspect of the game is your inability to attack, causing you move through every environment thinking about how best to retreat, hide or blockade yourself. You also know a survival horror game has done something right when you're in a calm bright area, paranoia sets in and all you can think is how you won't be able to hide from the DEMONS. It brings back memories of watching my friends play Resident Evil or Silent Hill with myself hiding behind a pillow in the back corner of the room.  Now that I have the basic mechanics down I think I can at least try and attempt at playing on my own...

Other games worth checking out:
Tiny and Big in Grandpa’s Leftovers - Love the art style and mechanics, seem worthy of $10!
Monaco - Gameplay starts at 4:25, looks like so much fun for both single and multiplayer aspects.

This weekend I plan on seeing the new pixar movie Brave. I have been following this movie for some time now and I’m excited to see it. Obvious comparisons to How to Train Your Dragon have been made, but lets hope this has an story that stands at least somewhat apart. Mark Andrews who is one of the two directors has worked storyboards on a few Genndy Tartakovsky projects like Samurai Jack and the (traditionally animated) Clone Wars, but it looks as though this is his first attempt at a full length feature film. Reviews so far seem to indicate that this is not going to be an amazing pixar experience but I’m sure it will be an entertaining affair.

Pixar also showed its trailer for Monsters University, which I am 100% completely underwhelmed with. Usually I love the humour in Pixar films but something has always rubbed me the wrong way about the Monster's series.

Maybe its just me, but there is something that is just so disingenuous about this trailer, like the animators making it couldn't even make the characters look as though they really believe this 'prank' action was clever or funny.
