Coraline pt. 2

So on IGN and Rottentomatoes (two site owned by the same people) there is a Coraline week and each day they post a new video documentary on their progress and what to expect from the movie.

Today's video is titled: Crafting the World of Coraline

And I must say that I'm becoming even more impressed than I was yesterday. I think that this is due to the fact that I'm liking the idea of a Neil Gaiman book or story becoming a movie that you can be proud of and want to see. Stardust was a movie that was a lot of fun and has been the first movie in a long time doing nothing else but just a good movie. Many people said it was hopping on the Pirates of the Caribbean band wagon, but once 20 minutes in you could clearly see that was not its intentions. It turned out to be a movie that If I were to see it as a child I would probably love it to death. But Coraline seems to have more stylized aspects to the movie (clearly) but I think that's the only way to make a novel written by Neil Gaiman otherwise something gets lost in translation. Also I guess its because some of my favorite movies are made by Focus Features and whenever I see their logo I get very excited.

Link: The Faces of Evil

Lately I have been watching some videos for the Zelda games that are so horrible. So I have decided to put them up here. To remind us all that Zelda has seen worse times.

Here is a link to another one. Unfortunately I couldn't embed this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3snn6ZDs5c

Coraline

Coraline was a children's book I read about a year and a half ago because I wanted to read something that resembled a fairy tale. It didn't disappoint. It was creative and imaginative and everything that I love about Neil Gaiman came through in this tale. Now its being made into a movie and I saw my first video on it on Rotten Tomatoes. With the director behind Nightmare Before Chirstmas behind it I couldn't ask for much more. I guess if I had my way i would like to have seen Dave McKean have more of an influence on the project, but i guess you can't have it all.

You can tell that the movie isn't finished yet but its neat to see some of the visuals already being made. It comes out in February and Im looking very much to seeing it.

New Radiohead Song

Super Collider

Maybe I'll get to hear it in Toronto!

Le Couche Tard

During the Montreal trip we said many things that people would assume that we were all insane, but saying Le Couche Tard!! with weird actions took the cake this trip. If you don't understand its ok, I dont think you want to.

Rainbows for Radiohead in Montreal

Went to Montreal last week which was super awesome, but the best part by far was seeing Radiohead. Waiting for 2 hours before the doors opened and then once in the park waiting another 2 hours but in the rain. We found an umbrella on the way into the concert that was broken and we decided to pick it up, and thank god we did, otherwise we would have been completely soaked.

Grizzly Bear opened for Radiohead which was definitely the best opener for a band that I have seen in quite a long time. Only they played for just over 40 minutes and now after listening to them more I know they had a lot more stuff to show off. During their set there was a rainbow that came up after the storm had passed and the leader (well he seemed to be the leader) said "Rainbows for Radiohead", everyone screamed and clapped.

Once dark Radiohead finally came on, and boy did they not disappoint. Here is their set list:
  1. 15 Step
  2. There There
  3. Morning Bell
  4. All I Need
  5. My Iron Lung
  6. Nude
  7. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
  8. The Gloaming
  9. The National Anthem
  10. Fake Plastic Trees
  11. Reckoner
  12. Like Spinning Plates
  13. Jigsaw Falling Into Place
  14. Lucky
  15. Optimistic
  16. Idioteque
  17. Bodysnatchers
    Encore 1
  18. Faust Arp
  19. Videotape
  20. Paranoid Android
  21. Bangers and Mash
  22. Karma Police
    Encore 2
  23. House of Cards
  24. You And Whose Army?
  25. Everything In It’s Right Place
With two encores, fireworks and ridiculously epic clouds in the background, and incredible sound this concert has been my overall favorite of ALL TIME. When they played Fake Plastic Trees, Reckoner, and Like Spinning Plates in a row, I think its been the most beautiful moment I have ever had in a concert before. If I had one song that I would have wanted them to play that they didn't it would have been Exit Music (for a film) because it is my all time favorite song by them.

The 40 minutes walk to the metro station was quite annoying to say the least, but it was amazing to see 30,000 people trying to push their way to get on the trains.

Dark Knight the IMAX Experience

On Sunday I am going to see the Dark Knight in IMAX. I have already seen it twice in normal theaters and it will be neat to see the difference that the special IMAX cameras make. I haven't been to an IMAX theater for a Hollywood movie in my life. So I don't really know what to expect in terms of visual quality or sound. But all I know is that for $14 it better be good!
